So long and thanks for reading!
I’ve been trying to think of a way to sum this whole thing up, some way to put it all so quaintly and nicely. Maybe something philosophical - my own Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, or some crap like that.
But the only thing I can think is “it’s over.”
And that can be taken in a few ways. Neither way is so cut and dry. While there’s the “thank god it’s over” mental faction, there’s also the “I’m sorry to see that it’s over” bits. And neither make a whole lot of sense.
By the time I rode through Columbus into Wheeling, I was tired. I was physically and mentally exhausted. Being at the farm certainly rejuvenated me a bit, but the ride back to Pennsylvania and the bad luck on the day after through me back into full exhaustion mode.
I feel bad, since I’ve been back I’ve not seen too many people and have been really crappy at keeping in contact (on the road, I was regulated and very good at it). I don’t know if that’s part of the exhaustion or just part of not being really all that regulated. Maybe a bit of both.
So what are my future plans?
For now, I’m living in Central Pennsylvania for the rest of the summer. While here, I plan on riding a lot, seeing some movies, visiting some friends, visiting New Vrndavana, selling some stuff (car, some books, some shelves) and basically getting ready to move to Seattle.
I had planned on a trip to New England. That is officially uncertain. I just don’t know if I have the money. I’m trying to not let the exhaustion be a factor, but it is. Though money is a bigger issue.
Well, I guess that’s about it. I made it. Thanks to everyone who read along. I’m sorry that I don’t have much more to say. I’ll be resuming my regular blog shortly.
The only thing left is for Harley and Annabelle to sing us on out…

Hey Eric,
I’ve enjoyed reading Scoot66. I updated my RSS feed to your other blog.
I have a few questions, regarding your riding clothing/gear you used on scoot. I ordered the RevPacks on your suggestion. I’ve seen how you packed (rolled) - rain gear. But any (cannonball) suggestions on daily riding gear? We’re about the same build and same scooter.
I haven’t done alot of long/day after day riding.
Thanks!
Dave

Hey!
Good call on the RevPacks. Everything they make is top quality. However, some folks don’t like the saddlebags. I personally really like them. On the GTS, you have to secure them to the forward braces of the back rack. The front of the bags tie down to the passenger pegs. You’ll see.
You’re doing the Cannonball? I wish I could. I’d love to. But at this point, money is an issue.
For daily riding gear, I’d go with Corazzo for everything but pants (until Corazzo makes pants, that is). For pants, I used Joe Rocket. I can’t remember the name, but they were all non-leather and GREAT winter/summer pants. They even had a removable rain liner which woudl be great in the winter.
Riding the distances you will be doing in the Cannonball is actually fairly easy. I didn’t think it would be, but my return trip, where I did more miles per day than the Cannonball, proved otherwise. It’s tiring and draining, but not so much that it’ll kill you.
If you’re doing the cannonball, try to do a couple of 1000 mile weekends. Just ride. Start smaller, of course, like a 300 mile weekend, then 500 then 750 then 1000. Something like that. I started slowly and built it up.
As for my new blog, there’s not a whole lot going on in my life, scooter-wise, these days. I’m not burned out on it, but I’m using the Vespa as a daily rider, so the recreation isn’t there. But soon I’ll be dropping the engine on the Stella and putting in a PX200 engine.
I’m stoked. That will be covered in detail.
Thanks for reading!
Eric

your travel blog has been very awe inspiring. to make a very long story short due to things that have happen in my life in the last couple years I have started to plan a trip across the united states… with all my friends telling me “there is no way you and your scooter will make it” I now read your blog and my faith has been restored I plan to leave Grand Rapids Michigan in mid April 2009 with small amounts of money and camp gear at first i have not been able to find a good working map that will accommodate my 50cc scooter. I now see what you have done and I think I may try to take the same route you took… please e mail me with any advice that you might have for me… your blog has been very helpful.
