Day 45 - Really big hill in Albuquerque

Today was another day off! I love it. Yeah, I’m definitely itching to get back on the scooter, but lounging around Sabra and Cortney’s is wonderful.

Speaking of the scooter, I got a call from the shop in Utah. My back breaks were completely shot, which isn’t surprising in the least. I’m glad they caught it and are changing them. I should have been checking them more thoroughly.

Anyway, today we headed up the mountain to the east of ABQ. It’s nearly 11,000 feet above sea level - by far the highest I’ve been on this trip.

It’s amazing how out of shape I am at 11,000 feet. Walk across the parking lot? Yeah, I’m out of breath! Even so, we walked around the top of the mountain and had a little picnic. It was pretty fun. I really dig a lot of stuff about this town.

After all that, we came back to their house and mostly just hung out. It’s nice to not have to do stuff. I mean, it’s the weekend and all, right? So why bother with doing stuff?

And on that philosophical note, I’ll bid you goodnight.

Here are my pics.

    Hi Eric!

My name is Rick, and I’m doing almost the same thing you are, but in a car. You may be like “So what, you are driving a car”, but I beg to differ. with two cars, and 6 children along for the ride, is ALMOST worse than washboard roads on a scooter!

We are moving from Milwaukee, WI to North Las Vegas, NV, and taking 5 or so days to go along I-40 and some of the old alignments of 66. I plan on blogging and pictures and video, etc. I got the idea from reading your blog!

    Anyways, happy trails!

    Rick

    Hey rick!

Two cars and six children are definitely worse than a whole continent of washboard roads on a scooter. I do not envy you in the least!

But it’s great that you’re doing it! And I’m really happy that my little wandering rantings could inspire you to do such thing.

Since you’ll be in Las Vegas, you won’t be too far from the Mother Road, so you could take short trips here and there as well. Very cool.

    Thanks!

I gained a new appreciation for why you don’t ride in the rain last Saturday. It’s the rainy season and well, it rained. And while the trip was necessary, it wasn’t fun. I don’t know if I completely share you views on cars, but I would much rather have 18 wheels than four (probably because this would also require me to obtain another basset hound). I do think that you should trade your Toyota for a black Trans Am.

I will relent and travel by Kenworth at high noon on the 6th of June.

As for the Trans Am, I’m not sure that I have the mustache for it.

Is that Sandia mountain in ABQ? I got dizzy on the drive up. But the view was incredible.

Yep, that’s Sandia. I was a bit queasy on the way up, but it was pretty amazing on the top.
