Yep, E-Lee. No idea why. I can’t really find much history about the founding/naming of the town. I assume it was someone’s last name (which would explain the odd pronunciation). I couldn’t find anything like “way back in 1889 Jedediah Ely discovered copper…”

No idea. Weird stuff.

Though not as weird as this.

It’s a song called “Amarillo By Mornin” and the next line is “then on to, San Antone”. George is very big stuff down here. Especially in south and central Texas.

I dare you to go to a gun store in Ardmore and ask for a “gun like Hinkley used”. That’s a REALLY conservative and Republican part of the state. They probably wouldn’t appreciate a Hinkley reference/reminder.

He’s not actually saying anything. It’s a style of Russian music that just uses sounds. Sort of like the “scat” subgenre of jazz. Except stupid.

I don’t get the George Strait reference, but I feel like I should. School me.

I’m looking forward to that part of the country. It’s where you can tell how large a town is by how big the water tower is.

So on day 6 you’ll be singing “Amarillo by evenin, the on Ard-more.” Ok, oblique George Strait reference sure but if you were from Texas you’d probably laugh.
Oh, RE Ardmore. If you use Google maps to zoom into Ardmore it won’t help since there is nothing there but 25,000 rednecks and 30,000 teeth between them. In all seriousness though, it’s a pretty city. To bad it’s in Oklahoma. Though oddly enough, they don’t seem to brag about John Hinkley being from there.
