Donk? Cars with candy and cereal on them!

Here’s something I have a hard time wrapping my little head around. Ok. There’s a website called YouDriveWhat.com. It’s pictures of strange/odd/silly looking modes of transportation – from garden tractors to big rigs. Some are broken down and some are all pimped out.

I guess donk cars are cars with huge rims and tricked out doors, etc. Fine, it’s a bit more macho than something I’d go for, but I get it.

What I don’t get is the super manly “ghetto” cars with Skittles or Lucky Charms art all over them. It’s almost like they’re saying, “I’ma kick your ass and then go play some pinball.” And hey, maybe that is what they’re saying.

Still, I don’t really get it.

Keep in mind, these rolling advertisements aren’t company cars. The candy companies aren’t paying people to do this. [Edit - it appears that some might be doing just that!] The owners shell out thousands of dollars to tell everyone how much they like Nerds or Cheetos or even John Deere. It’s really weird.

I’ve never once seen a car like this on the streets of Seattle, but I have seen Skittles and Lucky Charms jackets.

And again, the folks wearing this stuff (and, I assume, driving this stuff) are often really tough looking individuals. Maybe it’s an “I’m so bad, I can wear a stupid looking jacket, drive a stupid looking car and you still can’t make fun of me” kind of thing.

Or maybe it’s just genuine. Maybe the guy who drives the Fruity Pebbles car loves Fruity Pebbles. A lot. More than anyone else in the world. Maybe the guy who owns the Cheetos car eats nothing but Cheetos. Ever. I guess I’m ok with that.

And I guess I’m ok with whatever people want to drive and for whatever reason they want to drive it.

Well, almost. Sometimes.

Ok, basically, if you could kick my ass, you can drive or ride whatever you want. Taste the rainbow!

  1. I will swear, I have seen that Cheetos car in New Orleans. Cheetos is VERY popular there!

    • Wait.. but how is it really popular there? I mean, it’s not like it’s a local treat. You’d think they’d be more popular in dry, arid climates like Arizona since the humidity would make the cheesy coating stick to EVERYTHING!

  2. Good point about it sticking to everything, Eric. When I taught fourth graders down there, assignment papers and pencils were smudged with that orange coating. In fact, the finger tips of elementary school kids in N. O. are permanantly stained, I kid you not. One has to face facts-Louisiana has the 7th highest rate of overweight youths, ages 10-17, at 35.9 percent, according to recent studies.
Not just Cheetos, Fritos corn chips and Doritos are also up there as a staple food. Parents would argue with me about which snacks were healthy or not. “Mr. T, Fritos is made from corn!!!”

  3. Taste the rainbow of fruit pain!

  4. In Charleston we have a Steelers car, Crown Royal car, and a Dora Car. I take pics of them with my phone and send them to people. It’s awesome when I spot one. And….I don’t get it either. The M&M jackets they wear are Nascar jackets…..don’t get that either. Oh the wonders of the world!!!

    • The M&M jackets and Skittles jackets up here are definitely *not* NASCAR. These are exclusively worn by nonwhite people. It’s baffling. I wish I liked something THAT much.

Dora the Explorer car? I need a picture of that.

      • there is that weird similarity though. like the gangster dude in my building in central had a marlboro jacket, with checkered flags and everything. looked like it belonged in wv…some kind of strange “poor with bad taste doesn’t care about melatonin” thing

    • we also have a frosted flakes car in charleston – i saw it today!

  5. I actually just saw the Steelers car today but it was 10 cars ahead of me. You wonder why I could see that far ahead of me….because it had a lift and was sitting on 22′s. I will try to spot these for you and snap a picture. I think I may have some in my phone. I will email them to you. I have not seen the Dora car in sometime….but will keep an eye on it.

Also did you notice how many of those cars are from South Carolina??? My friend in Columbia sees them all the time but not as much down in Charleston.

  6. hi kids, gee the only cars we have with ads on them are the ” we do metal roofs” cars; and then they’re always parked some where ( free advertisements). but now the townships and municipalities are starting to have them towed away.bummer. dad

  7. Dad…these aren’t advertisements. Just stupid people who think it makes their cars look nice. I really don’t get…probably never will. So weird!!!

  8. it was a joke dufuss. dad

  9. Geez…Dad. That was a low blow….haha
