The growing number of neighbors

Though the first floor apartment below us has sat vacant for well over a month and the entire apartment complex next door is abandoned and fenced off, our neighbors seem to be growing in number.

Around Thanksgiving, we noticed an RV parked in front of our apartment. We figured that it was probably some family or friends visiting someone nearby for the holidays. Thanksgiving came and went, as did Christmas. The RV remained.

Around the new year, it was joined by another RV. At first we weren’t sure if they knew each other or if it was a coincidence or friends/family of someone across the street. Both RVs were being lived in. They weren’t just parked there for lack of space, this was their home.

Recently, they’ve been joined by two vans. The red van parks closest to us and is insulated with black garbage bags over the windows. The blue van often has someone sitting in the driver’s seat. Though it wasn’t there when I snapped the pictures, there’s lately been a white bread truck that’s been turned into a home. Today there was a pick up truck that may be part of this crew.

I’m really not sure what’s going on here. I’d say that they were a band of travelers, but they don’t seem to be traveling. It’s rare that I see them out of their vehicles, but when I walk by, I often hear their TVs. At night we hear their generators.

I’m certainly not a huge fan of meddling in other people’s business, but I am curious. I’ve got zero intention to call the cops, of course. However their rough their life is now, the cops will only make it worse (if they could do anything at all).

But I’m also curious as to how many people will end up parked on the street. Right now it’s five or six different vehicles. Will more soon come? Will they leave when the weather gets warmer or the economy picks up? Though I’d like some answers, I’ll just wish them the best.
