For me, 2001 is a masterpiece of cinematography, a Kubrick work of art that is so much more than Arthur C. Clark telling a story, whereas 2010 is no more than a half decent Sci-Fi movie. It's not surprising when you consider 2010 was directed by Peter Hyams who also directed Timecop and End of Days. While these films aren't particularly bad (providing you don't require reasonable acting) they're just not in the same league as anything done by Kubrick. I like Stanley, can you tell? I loved it as a kid. I havent seen it in years, but I enjoyed it the last time I saw it. Not the profound movie that 2001 is. (the "My god it's full of stars" scene still gives me chills when i see it) you get to see how bowman went on and communed with the higher beings and was involved with the plans for the solar system. which is always fun 2010 is kinda cool.
