Good-bye to Ubuntu? Well, sort of…

I really, really like Ubuntu Linux. I thought their last stable version, Hardy Heron, was perfect. And the newest, Intrepid Ibex, should be even better, right?

Well, no. Since upgrading to Ibex, I’ve had nothing but problems. Especially with Firefox and audio and flash. I’ve tried fixes and work arounds, but yesterday I became fed up to the point where I decided to leave Ubuntu. Maybe for good.

It is my screenshot, ok?So what did I do? Did I venture back to Windows with my geeky little tail between my legs? Heck no! I have moved onto another version of Linux.

Enter: Linux Mint.

Linux Mint is based upon Ubuntu. It’s like Ubuntu, but made pretty and quite a bit more stable. The version of Mint that I’m using (Elyssa) was built from Ubuntu Hardy Heron, which was quite stable. I could have just gone back to Ubuntu Hardy, but I figured that since I was going to have to do a fresh install, why not try something different?

And I really, really like it.

I’ve played around and tweaked it a bit and wow, it’s quite lovely.

If you’re thinking about switching to Linux, I do still strongly suggest Ubuntu Hardy Heron. But if you want something a little more elegant, give Linux Mint a try, ok?
