Covers Christmas CD in the mail!

Quite a good chunk of my yesterday morning was spent in the Ballard, Seattle post office sending out the Covers to Keep You Warm Christmas CD. I believe that about 50 were sent. Thankfully, Rod, the super nice and happy post guy was super nice and happy about it. I’ve seen other postal people nearly go postal when they see me walk in the door. “Sort this, deliver that… I’ll make them all pay!”

The west coast folks should get them in the next couple of days. The east coasters will have to wait till the end of the week or maybe beginning of next week.

Then, on Christmas Eve, I’ll be posting it as a download for anyone who didn’t get it or who doesn’t want to spend the time ripping it to MP3.

And on that note, all the CDs have been registered with CDDB, the CD database that fills in all the song titles, etc when you put a CD into your computer. So ripping shouldn’t be a problem! Lucky you, eh!

Want to know the track listing? Sure! Let’s do that!

And that’s it. Well, there are a couple of bonus CD3s with 15 or so songs, but you’re on your own with those (teehee). Oh, and “The Killing Moon” has been replaced with “Sweet and Tender Hooligan.” Sorry Echo & The Bunnymen fans, but that songs been done to death.

Any questions?

Here’s some trivia. The daughter of a woman my mother worked with in the eighties managed Echo & The Bunnymen as well as another Liverpudlian band, Teardrop Explodes I think. Apparently, the Bunnymen were cool and easy to work with but the other band wasn’t. The last thing I remember buying of E&B is Ocean Rain which I thought was their best. That was a long time ago though so maybe I hated it. No, I’m sure I liked it. If anyone likes the Bunnymen, they should listed to large quantities of Nick Drake. Not just the stuff you hear in movies, but the less known tracks like “Man in a Shed” from his first recording, Five Leaves Left. It’s wonderful.

I am pretty sure I’ve got everything by them (unless they recently got back together and released something). They were great. A bit too much like the Doors at point, but pretty amazing.

And I know that I should listen to Nick Drake, but I never get around to it. I do, however, really dig the Clem Snide song, “Nick Drake Tape.”

You can here that here.

I was very much into The Doors so that’s probably what I liked about the Bunnies. You could definitely hear they were Doors influenced even without an organist. Talk about being influenced by The Doors, The Stranglers, a band of desperate Doors wannabes. No More Heroes practically stole the intro to Light My Fire. Still, it’s a great song anyway, so good for them. I was in several bands desperately trying to be Gong, a band I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t like. Bunch of acid head hippies from the sixties. Though they did chant Hare Krishna. So they’re bona fide, prabhu.
Nick Drake Tape, got to appreciate someone singing about how they loved listening to Mr. Drake, or at least loved a girl who loved listening Nick Drake. That last sentence hurt my head. Must sleep now.

I can honestly say I’ve never heard of Gong. But I have been listening to Sparks a bit. I managed to get everything they’ve ever recorded (I’m cool like that). Even their two newest albums (06 & 08) are brilliant. New favorite band. Thanks a bunch for that.

It’s definitely a very good and respectful cover. It’s a bit faster than the original and a bit more punchy. But it’s honest to the feel of the song.

Woo! thanks so much! I’m really glad you liked it. It’s a mixed bag, so I never know what folks will think.

Remember “double mail days” and the rare “triple mail days”? This time of year is GREAT for mail.

I don’t remember double or triple mail days. I’ve never been as avid a mailer as you. I *do* remember you doing some anarchy thing with the stamps though :)

Monday was “double mail day.” Our theory was that since mail didn’t come on Sundays, all mail that would have come on Sundays was delivered on Mondays. Thus “double mail day.”

The rare “triple mail day” came on Tuesdays following such holidays as Memorial Day that fall on Mondays, thus offering us no mail. That theory was similar to the “double mail day” in that it assumed that all mail that wasn’t delivered on Sunday AND Monday would finally be delivered on Tuesday, the “triple mail day.”

And yes.. something about rubbing alcohol removing the post mark, I believe. :)
