Another haul of 80’s records… Thanks, Jive Time!

Yesterday, after having lunch with Ryan & Jaime and family at Bamboo Garden (amazing), Sarah and I stopped off at Jive Time Records so I could pick up the Duran Duran Carnival EP that I (for some reason) neglected to pick up before.

I walked away with twelve other records. And I think it’s quite a nice haul.

First, I finally found a cheap copy of the Times Square Soundtrack. I’ve not listened to it yet, but it’s got Roxy Music, Gary Numan, XTC, Talking Heads, The Cure and a ton of other fun bands on it. I’ve never seen the movie either, but assume it’s not as amazing as the soundtrack. I just put the movie on my queue at Netflix. I honestly didn’t realize it had been released. Long wait though.

Anyway, want to see the rest of what I got?

I also got:

-Duran Duran – Tiger Tiger EP
-Duran Duran – Carnival (Japanese) EP
-Depeche Mode – Strangelove 12″
-Depeche Mode – Master and Servant 12″
-Depeche Mode – Behind the Wheel/Route 66 12″ (sort of have to, huh?)
-Times Two – Celcila 12″
-Pet Shop Boys – Always on My Mind 12″
-Tears For Fears – Mothers Talk 12″
-Erasure – Sometimes 12″
-INXS – Original Sin 12″
-INXS – What You Need 12″ (REALLY fun remix)
-Camouflage – The Great Commandment 12″

I got one more thing that I really wasn’t expecting.

When I was a kid, I was really into Peter Gabriel’s “Shock the Monkey.” It was on the album Security. I got it on cassette for Easter one year, probably 1986ish. I eventually downloaded it and at this point, it’s the only format I have it on.

Until now… sort of.

I picked up what I thought was a German pressing of Security called Deutsches Album. I thought it would be fun to have a German edition of my favorite Peter Gabriel album. But that’s not really what it is.

For some reason or another, Mr. Gabriel thought it would be a good idea to rerecord all of the vocals… in German. In freakin’ German!

This is, to say the least, surreal. But with songs like “Schock den Affen,” “Das Fischernetz,” and “Nicht die Erda Hat Dich Verschluckt” how can you not love it?!

How about you listen to “Schock den Affen.”

It’s not merely just a vocal rerecording though. Some mixes are different. There’s also a different running order for the tracks. Some songs are a bit longer, some shorter. This is weird. Very weird. This was also the second time he did it. The album before it (with “Biko” on it) was redone with German lyrics. Freaky, Pete!

Not as weird as Sarah buying a Best of Bread LP on K-Tel Records, but weird nonetheless.
