Seattle Perk #2: Movies

Number one is vegan doughnuts, ok?

Anyway, the second perk has got to be movies. There are a few that I wouldn’t really be able to see anywhere else.

I picked up one of the two weekly “alternative” papers while at a so-so record store today.1 Politically, we don’t agree, but they both have some fun ideas for what let’s do.

The Seattle Weekly, released today, told me about movies.

How about Creature from the Black Lagoon… IN 3-D!!!! THREE freakin’ D! You go to the theater, put on some 3-D specs and watch this Universal monster classic how it was intended to be watched… in 3-D!

The Grand Illusion Theater is playing that and a slew of other horror/sci-fi goodies like Return of the Living Dead, It Came From Outer Space and The Brain that Wouldn’t Die. Hopefully I’ll get to see some.

Another movie that caught my eye was Monks: The Transatlantic Feedback. Those who followed my Scoot 66 trip will remember that I fell head over heels with 60′s proto-punk band The Monks. Big thanks to Courtney and Sabre from Albuquerque for introducing me to them.

The reviewer from Seattle Weekly really didn’t like/get it. Either that or he’s just a complete douche (though it looks like he tried to like it).

Another movie, The Boy in Striped Pajamas, could probably be seen elsewhere. But while I’m here and seeing movies, why not catch that one as well, right?

While this coming week will most certainly bring some job looking. It’ll also bring some monster watching. Now, all I need to find is a good record store. A good comic book store wouldn’t hurt either. They’re here, I just need to find out where.

  1. And by “alternative” I mean latte liberal… so… not really alternative. []
