Civil War Trip – Day One (Antietam and some Maryland bits)

Hey folks! I had a hell of a day! Good good things! But rather than type it all out, here are all the pictures with captions for most of them. You can follow my day as it happened and see what I saw! Yay!

Miles today: 240

(The file sizes might be sort of large – I’m sorry about that. I’ll try to fix it for tomorrow’s pics.)

Here I go!

Ok, and off I go!

Last night, I had some problems with the scooter. Mostly, it was how the extra weight was distributed. I developed a VERY nasty front-end wobble. The load was set up pretty much exactly the same way as it was when I traveled 11,000 miles this spring and summer. The big difference was that I did away with the front rack.

Because of this, I got a very bad wobble. It was worse than I had ever experienced and nearly ditched it a few times. Not good.

I put the front wrack back on, but that creates another problem. Riding at night is nearly impossible because the front rack blocks the light. And because the bag that on top of the rack is yellow, it reflects that high beam light right back at me.

Hopefully I won’t have to ride too much at night. This is potentially dangerous and I’m not very thrilled about riding like this, but what choice do I have at this point?

Anyway, I’m ready to head out. I’ll have limited net access and maybe no net access for a couple of days. I’ll post pictures as I can and keep in touch with people if possible.

Have a lovely week!
