Geeky little Ubuntu thing

As most who read this know, I’ve been using Ubuntu Linux as my operating system for some time now (well over a year, i think). I like it much better than Windows. On my laptop, I don’t use anything but Ubuntu.

But on my desktop machine, I was using Ubuntu and then went back to XP because of some dumb reasons like Netflix’s Watch Instantly thing only working on Windows using IE (because of some copy protection thing or laziness).

And while I use my laptop much more, lately, I’ve been watching a number of movies via Netflix Watch Instantly thing. Somewhere along the way, I uninstalled Ubuntu from the desktop machine and was only using XP.

Yesterday, however, I got the itch to try Xubuntu, a faster, lighter version of Ubuntu. The reason being, I am probably picking up one of those tiny laptops that all the cool kids are getting. It’s got a, 8.9″ screen and a native OS based on a version of Linux. I wanted to run Ubuntu on it and wanted to try out Xubuntu. It’s not that I think the native OS is crap, it’s not. I would miss Ubuntu. And now, I would miss Xubuntu.

Well, I installed Xubuntu and am now dual-booting with XP. Honestly, I love it. Xubuntu is fast. We’re talking mere seconds to start up. Firefox launches in.. hold on, let me check… two seconds (takes another two for my RSS-heavy homepage to fully load). My desktop machine isn’t exactly new or very fast, normally. Anyway, I’m sold.

I’ll probably be picking up a new Acer Aspire One laptop this week. My currant laptop will be handed down to my sister for a measly sum.

I have a few problems with Xubuntu, but the good far outweighs the bad. Geeky things are fun. Woo!
