My apartment: an explaination

There’s been a bit of confusion over my last post about my apartment and the electricity thereof. So let me explain a bit.

Due to the wiring situation, it’s been determined that it doesn’t take much to overload the circuits in my humble abode. And while my electricity is fully functional, I cannot have appliances that suck a lot of electricity.

These include both electric heaters, my hot plate and fridge. I can not have any of those in my apartment.

Yes, this means I can no longer cook for myself. I can’t store things in the fridge, either.

The heat is a stranger subject. There is one thermostat for the entire building. It’s on the second floor (I live on the fourth). It is set at 68 degrees. All parts of the building, except for my apartment, are insulated. This means that in order for the thermostat to turn on the furnace, it has to drop down to around 35 degrees outside (this is due to insulation and residual heat from the last time the furnace was on). When it gets cold enough for the furnace to kick on, I’m at the end of the line. My heater is the least hot in the building. But it’s not that bad.

What’s odd, however, is that it’s warmer in my apartment when it’s below 30 outside than it is when it’s around 40 outside. This is due to lack of insulation. It’s also a very boring subject.

With the combination of Ned’s blanket, a blanket that Gokula left here and another blanket, I keep warm enough at night. Sometimes I’m actually hot and have to lose a blanket. When not under the covers, I almost always have a jacket and hat on. Though, sometimes it gets too hot for either. Oh, I’m using the word “hot” to mean “not freezing.” It’s cold here.

The fridge problem is resolved thusly:

The weather has been cold enough to keep all of my items fresh. Thanks, God!

As for cooking, I usually snack on healthy snack food or eat at the Cherry Alley Cafe.

I’m managing. It hasn’t get gotten bitterly cold outside and I wonder how much of that I can take. I have the option of moving into my parents’ house for a bit, but I don’t think I want to do that. They would like it, of course, but I just don’t think it would work well.

Can I make it to the end of February? I just don’t know. I’d like to think so, but how can I tell? I do ask that you keep me in your prayers, thoughts, etc. It’s definitely appreciated.
