Classic ISKCON Tapes #1 – Srila Prabhupada Leads Kirtan

In the late 70’s and early 80s, ISKCON released a 20 tape series of kirtans and bhajans. As far as I know, none of these were released on any of the classic ISKCON records. Neither have they been released to CD.

But I have them all and hope to flood you with them at least once a week.

I don’t know the history of them and most don’t have covers or any production credits or dates. So it’s just the music. Ok? Ok!

Some caveats: The sound quality isn’t great. These are from old tapes recorded by devotees. Quality wasn’t a priority. Also, they’re MP3s encoded at 128kbs – not the highest quality. But listenable.

I’m not going to give you a track-by-track review on most of them. I wont do previews either. These are just tapes.

I’ll try to post one every Saturday. This is in addition to the Classic ISKCON Vinyl series that will show up on every Ekadasi.

The first one is…

kt-1_100.jpg

KT-01 Srila Prabhupada Leads Kirtan
01 – Srila Prabhupada – Samsara Dava Part I (Kirtana #1)
02 – Srila Prabhupada – Samsara Dava Part II (Kirtana #2)
03 – Srila Prabhupada – Govinda Jaya Jaya Part I (Kirtana #3)
04 – Srila Prabhupada – Govinda Jaya Jaya Part II (Kirtana #4)
05 – Srila Prabhupada – Samsara Dava (Kirtana #5)
06 – Srila Prabhupada – Govinda Jaya Jaya (Kirtana #6)

Since the first one is all Srila Prabhupada, there’s a chance that it was released on CD. I don’t know for sure if it has been. If anyone knows, tell me.

Also, like the Classic ISKCON Vinyl, these will only be up for a short while. Two weeks at most. And then I’ll take them down to make room for others. If anyone else would like to host them, let me know I’ll link to you.

Here’s a list of all the tapes…

Thank You Prabhu!

(Don’t you know where is the original Acyutananda – disciple of Srila Prabhupada – , and what is He doing now?)

Haribol!

Last I heard, he left ISKCON in the early 80’s and worked in a bank in NYC. But I have no idea of anything more.

You have to hook me up with high resolution covers for these! My mp3 player’s cover display functionality is crying :)

Thanks for these!

Ohh there are no covers for these. They were just tapes.

Ah, but you have an image of the tape – these would at least make a ‘retro’ cover :)

Yep, I do. But that’s from the old http://www.krishna.tv site (they used to sell them). My tapes are all packed away.
I’m sorry about that. I was hoping for a bigger pic too.

Thankyou for three downloads-TempleRadhaKrishna,ghosts and KT-02,we tried for KT-01 but no luck.Anyway, the above addresses will give you KT-05 which we recorded the other week for Gauranga-dasa at UK leicester Temple. Both are wave files converted to mp3 with cassette insert scan + actual tape scan. Our copy was “purchased”in 1973 with the old yellow labels pasted on top of maxell blanks. We have also converted SB1&2 by Acyutananda Svami to wave, here’s a sample track http://www.mediafire.com/?efmmjyvwzzw -Radhe Jaya Madhva Dayite
Which leads us on to suggest that you are welcome to host your tapes on our account, anytime prabhu.Lastly,Srila Bhaktivedanta wants us to use winrar for zipping up all Transcendental Sound Vibrations. We wantedto e-mail but couldn’t find an address

Haribol!

Thanks a bunch!

The reason you couldn’t get KT-01 was because I took it down yesterday to free up room. I’m looking into bigger storage places. We shall see!

As for winrar, I can do that, of course. But most folks in the states use winzip. I like rar better myself, but I’m most concerned about people being able to open it. Can winzip open rars? (I use winrar to convert and open zips hehe).

What is SB1 &2 by Acyutananda Swami? Mediafire won’t let me download the sample. Something about not having the correct browser. I use firefox on Ubuntu, so I’m betting they don’t like Linux (yawn).

On Monday (Ekadasi, I’ll be posting an album) and next Saturday, I’ll be posting KT-03.

Thanks a bunch for offering your account. I may take you up on it if I can’t find other hosting.

Thanks!!

As for zips and rars, there are two good freebies around-extractnow which will unzip anything but not archive. the other is izarc which zips and unzips.Right now i’m d’ling KT-01.When we’ve finished we’ll send a couple of photos via your address in -sitproperly- regarding sb1&2.
http://www.dipika.org/2003/02/18/manasatita.sit.properly/index.html ,a potted history of the sitproperly order.
We passed our driving test on a vespa waywayway back in”gulp”1963.Sorry to hear about the d’l problem, did you succeed with the rapidshare,if so i’llmp3 the wave tapes of Acyutananda and post them there. Also please feel free to distribute the kt5 links

Haribol!

I think I’m still going to use zips – seems universal enough. Rars aren’t any smaller, though the self-extracting exe file is nice, however, folks on linux can’t use it. Zip seems to be ok.

I couldn’t get one of them to work, not sure why. But with rapid share, I grabbed the first one, but it made me wait 102 minutes for the second one. So I haven’t gotten it yet.

As for the kt5, I’m going to use your scans in a couple of weeks when I get to that one.

Thanks so much! Haribol!

eric
