Almost a REALLY bad day…

I nearly seized my scooter again. Well, I was on the road to it. It didn’t soft seize or anything bad like that, but it started “pinging,” which is a weird little sound that it makes, sort of like valves chattering, when it gets really fucking hot. Bad bad thing.

I did a plug chop and got this:

It’s white. That’s a bad thing.

I asked at the StellaSpeed message boards and it seems that I have an airleak. That was the problem that blew it up for me last time. But this time, I’m fighting back!

I’m going to retorque (tighten properly) the head and smear high temp copper sealant on the pipe (where I think the leak is coming from) tonight. These things should fix it.

If they don’t, then it could be a timing issue. That will require a few more tools and I really don’t want to have to do that.

In other scooter news, I have a few other projects that I MUST do before my Gettysburg trip on the 30th.
-I have to fix the horn – simple enough, I think it’s just a loose wire
-I have to install the new headlight – ScooterWorks forgot to include the bulb and promised to send it, but it hasn’t showed up yet. Thanks. I’ll probably just go buy a new one.
-Remove the starter button – for inspection. Just in case there’s some rule that states “if you have a starter button, it has to work.” Mine doesn’t. No battery.

After that, I would like to sand and repaint the horncasting and also install the tachometer that I got. I’d like to do those before the Jersey trip, which is about a month away.

However, the important thing is to get this air leak taken care of and get it ready for inspection.

One response so far
