A few regrets and a bedroom campsite.

Ohh I’m clearly itchin’ to go.

I had Chinese with Ashley last night. Probably the last time we’ll ever do that on the east coast. At least for a long while. We talked about moving and leaving friends and making new ones and dreams and plans and it was a wonderfully sad affair. I’m usually pretty ok with change. And I almost never have regrets. But in this case (the case of me moving), I’m not dealing well with this change and I’m having regrets about not getting to know some people better.

Well, I could go on about that, but I have the feeling that will be the topic of many future posts, so I’ll spare you for now.

On a much, much lighter note, I got most of my camping supplies yesterday. That included a tent, self-inflating ground mat, sleeping bag and a couple of compression bags. I situated everything, rolling the HELL out of them and strapped them to the top of my semi-hard luggage that will go on my back rack.

Hard to think that there is a tent, sleeping bag, ground mat, a week’s worth of clothes and all my toiletries in the pack. Strange to think about, actually. We spend our lives trying to go bigger and better and here I am pulling on compression straps trying to make it smaller.

So, like anyone who very ready to leave, I set up camp in my bedroom. How 7 years old of me!

Excuse the mess. I’m in the middle of setting up camp in my bedroom. And Ebay stuff. My life is hardly my own at this point.

But here’s the inside of the tent.

It’s a LOT bigger than I thought it would be. Which is why it surprises me that it packs up so small.

The whole pack, including luggage, is probably about 40lbs. Give or take. Then I have two saddle bags at about 15lbs each. There will probably be about 80lbs of extra weight on the scooter. It will definitely slow things down. But because of the compression straps and packing like a backpacker, I don’t have to use a front rack. That’s a really swell thing.

Good morning, kids!
