Route 66 T-Shirts (Help! Suggestions needed!)

A few months ago, I came up with some tshirt ideas involving Route 66. Actually, I was planning on making some samples and driving 66, seeing if I could get buyers in any of the shops along the Route. See, I’ve had a problem with Route 66 tshirts. Either they’re very hokey (in my opinion) or… well, no, they’re just hokey. Generally. I’ve never had a liking for anyone of them aside from one that would simply have the Route 66 shield on it. And I’ve never found one bigger than a Youth Large.

Well, my life as I knew it drastically changed and I didn’t get around to making any of my ideas. That, and most of the screens crapped out on me due to bad emulsion. Anyway, I’m back at it.

I have some ideas, old ideas, I guess, and I’m working on some new ones. Here are a bunch of my older ideas.

First, the ones that made it into shirts. I have a few (5 at most) of each of these designs. Click on the pics for the full view, ok? Ok!

And these are the designs from last year that I didn’t make into shirts (again, click on the image to view it full size)…

Bagdad Cadillac Ranch Cowboy Motel

Motel Mountain Lion Roy's

Any thoughts? Would you even want a tshirt like any of these?

I have a few other designs too. Some for Coney Island and Asbury Park. And a few political and KC ones too. But for now, I’m going to focus on the Route 66 ones.

Any comments or suggestions would really be helpful. Thanks!

*Edit – I placed the tshirts up on ebay. Check them out here: Click

the first, the third and the fourth are my favorites. I think that you should make some more. Didn’t you sell them on eBay?

Not yet, Schnappi, but I probably will. I like the first, third and fourth as well. I also like the Sixth.

I’d like to do something with the Bent Door Cafe in Adrian, TX too. They’re really super nice people.

Maybe something with the Blue Swallow as well, Schnappy.

Hi! I’m a real Route 66 fan. I think the Bagdad T-shirt is great, but maybe only for folks who are real Route 66 insiders. The Amarillo/Cowboy Motel has universal appeal — I’d totally buy one. The one with Roy’s in Amboy is perfect, and the new owner of Amboy might want to sell them in his new shop.

I agree that something with the Blue Swallow in Tucumcari, NM would be a good new idea. Maybe also consider: the Gemini Giant (IL), Charcoal Oven (Oklahoma City, OK), WigWam Village Motel (Holbrook, AZ), Jackrabbit Tradiing Post (AZ), Snow Cap Drive-In (Seligman, AZ), Elmer’s Place (CA).

    Good luck!

Yeah, the Bagdad shirt really would go to someone who knows the Route really really well. I always liked the idea of “Hey, there’s a tree! We must be in Bagdad!”

When I go through Amboy in June, I’ll try to talk to the owner of Roy’s. There might be some copyright violation going on and I want to make sure I don’t get sued, etc.

Same with any of the businesses on 66. Just kind of thought of that. But they would certainly make money off the tshirts.

I make these in my house, but I think it would be great to have to outsource to a local company because I couldn’t keep up with demand. Haha.. I seriously doubt that would ever happen.
