Playing with Windows Vista. And it’s Friday.

Nikki and I picked up a new laptop for her a couple of nights ago and it’s got the new Windows Vista OS on it. And today, this morning I got a chance to play with it.

It’s got some pretty cool features, like if you move your mouse over the toolbar at the bottom, it’ll show you a thumbnail of that window. Pointless, but sorta neat. There’s also a calendar and clock on the desktop. Again, pointless, but neat. That’s however where the fun ends.

There is one hell of a learning curve to it. Especially if you’ve used XP for a long time. It is really tricky about not letting you do things like uninstall programs (have to jump through hoops to figure that out). And things like turning off/on a firewall, it just won’t let me.

The biggest grippe is that (so far) you can’t have Firefox be your default browser. If it is, Vista won’t let it connect to the internet. It’s a problem that seems REALLY fishy to me. And then convincing Vista that Firefox *isn’t* your default browser is a task unto itself. I had to reboot for it to figure it out.

Basically, I just don’t like it. Especially because of the Firefox thing. I’m sure either Firefox or Windows will eventually come up with a work around, but so what? I don’t see a point in upgrading yet. Unfortunately, you can’t buy a new computer with XP. You have to have Vista. It’s ape law or something.

In other exciting news, I got a call letting me know that the AllState is finished. I’ll be picking it up this weekend.

Going to see Pan’s Labyrinth with Sarah tonight. Goodmoviesarah.
