AllState setbacks and a painted glovebox cowl

Tried the paintstripper. No go. It was bad. And I think we made more work for the paint shop. That’s not good.

Here’s the front fender. It used to be white. You can see the primer sealer (grey), the primer (red) and the original color (sea foam green).

fender

It’s interesting (to me and nobody else in the world) that it’s sea foam green. AllStates were green until the 1959 model, which was baby blue. Maybe it was the 58, I don’t know. This means that the fender is older than the rest of the bike, which was baby blue. Either that or I’m wrong about the stock colors.

cowl
I used some paint remover on the cowl, but whatever was used to paint the door was really weird. Almost like a roofing material. Weird.

dad

My dad and his pink hat are trying to scrape away the paint from the luggage rack. I think it was too cold and we didn’t let the paint stripper set. He’ll be sandblasting that tomorrow.

painted cowl

However, as you can see above, I did pick up the painted glovebox cowl. There is a run or two in the paint, which pisses me off, but I’m probably the only person in the world who can see it. I installed the blinker and rubber stripping, but there’s still work to be done w/ the wiring and installing the lock.

no rubber things

I’ll also have to find little rubber stoppers where the four holes around the threshold are. Maybe the local hardware store. I can always order them from Scooter Part Direct with my next order.
I did a lot of sanding tonight.

And I got some cables.

middle guy

I’m the cool guy in the middle.

Tomorrow night I’ll be wiring up the Stella and moving the regulator and resistor unit where they need to be. Everything will be as compact as possible. I have to pick up about 10 bolts, locking washers and 2 rubber washers. And look for those rubber stoppers. Maybe I’ll use foam for now. I’ll install the lock as well. My scheme to use Nikki’s lock won’t work. Not the right fit. Oh well. Maybe I’ll spray the chrome one flat black. That would be fun.

Saturday will be for finishing up the wiring and then finally installing the cowl.

Sunday, we’ll take the AllState to the paint shop.

And then I’ll move on to my next project…

New reeds. Betcha can’t wait for that!
